Bike Marshalling

Kapiti Cycling Club had their Tuesday night 35km Cycle Race tonight. All members are rostered to take their turn standing on a street corner keeping cars away and the cyclists safe. It was my turn to do my bit!

Though it was not an exciting time it was however rewarding as without marshalls these events could not take place. Taking your turn makes you appreciate their efforts.

To be fair over the years in running I have not done much marshalling as most of the time I like to compete.

Swimming has definitely been the most demanding as it is totally dependent on the parents of the swimmers.

So this evening I'm feeling quite righteous and relieved that I prevented any cyclists being run over and probably less tired than I would have been if I had been competing.

Thanks for your comment on my blog :-). Yes, am trying to get back into it, even if it is really hard work. Run went okay tonight and found a comfortable pace, whether it will be the same next time don't know.

I can imagine marshalling is not as exciting as actually participating. But as you said, a really important job. Were there lots of cars around at the time?

Did you wear a high visibility jacket, and feel important? Those are two necessities when marshalling. :-)

Glad to you did your bit to help out, sorry that you weren't able to participate in the race itself.

We are out for a bike ride ourselves this morning.

Not too exciting, but important and helpful, as you explain.
